Matt's Comedy Club

Welcome to Worthing's family-friendly laughmaker

We've been running comedy nights in our splendid West Sussex seaside town since 2008, and this page is a quick introduction to what we're about.

Matt's began life as a one-off church gig organised by St Matthew's Church and has grown into one of the UK's top community-run comedy clubs, providing regular massively entertaining nights with a friendly atmosphere, a clean comedy ethos, and at great value prices! We're non-profit, so any funds left over after we've met costs get invested back into the club. We love to support and encourage local comedy wherever we can.

Acts we've put on include Milton Jones, Tim Vine (two Edinburgh previews in 2013), John Hegley, The Noise Next Door, James Acaster, Jo Enright, Paul Tonkinson, Henning Wehn, Zoe Lyons, John Archer, Slightly Fat Features, Harry Baker, Paul Kerensa, Celia Pacquola, The New Rope String Band, Joanna Neary, Andy Kind, Jay Foreman, Harry & Chris, Dyball & Kerr and many more. We also run regular Open Mic nights to encourage local talent.

From traditional stand-up to sketch comedy, music to mime, improv to magic, we've had it and thousands have come, including hundreds at the first ever Worthing Comedy Festival in 2010.

Matt’s Comedy Club marches on into its 11th year in 2019, with shows hosted by resident MC and co-founder Russ Bravo. We've already kicked things off at speed with a jaunty new material Open Mic at the Pavilion Cafe, the awesome Joanna Neary at the Connaught Studio, and another Open Mic just before Easter. Next up we have ...

1 JUNE - ANDY KIND: Hidden in Plain Sight

Lancing Tabernacle, Lancing (7pm)

Join us for an evening with comedian Andy Kind as he explores the theme of life and meaning through stories and jokes. Expect gags a plenty - with a thought-provoking undertone.
No advance tickets - entry on the door (doors open from 6.30). Andy will also be speaking at St Matthew's Church on Sunday 2 June (10.30 service). All welcome!

Matt’s Comedy Club – Worthing’s family-friendly fun night out – are delighted to welcome back a dynamic duo, who went down a storm on their last visit in December 2017.

Having played together in various forms for over 10 years, World Poetry Slam Champion Harry Baker teams up with BFF/Jazz Musician Chris Read as the imaginatively titled Harry and Chris.

After sell-out runs of their 2016 and 2017 shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, Harry Baker and Chris Read have been featured on The Russell Howard Hour (Sky) and tour regularly around the UK.

Making comedy-jazz-rap a thing, their songs range from panda repopulation to coming of age to Robot Wars, and they bring love and laughter to a world that needs both more than ever.

“Amazing, fabulously entertaining” – Jonathan Ross

“A wonderful blend of infectious songs packed with sharp, clever wordplay… Harry and Chris’ family friendly set leaves the audience with a smile on their face and the catchy tunes stuck in their head for the rest of the day.”
***** The Sunday Post

“The numbers are upbeat and feel-good, and all of them are about surprising and inventive subjects or points of view.”
***** Fringe Guru

“Blistering wordplay.”
***** ThreeWeeks on Harry Baker

Evening Standard on Chris Read

“A combination of catchy hooks and breathtaking verbal ingenuity makes this a winning hour… The quality and quantity of laughs on offer is generous and yet the show is cynicism-free, the tone unapologetically feel-good.”
