Matt's Comedy Club

Welcome to Worthing's family-friendly laughmaker

We've been running comedy nights in our splendid West Sussex seaside town since 2008 (we celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2018!), and this page is a quick introduction to what we're about.

Matt's began life as a one-off church gig organised by St Matthew's Church and has grown into one of the UK's top community-run comedy clubs, providing regular massively entertaining nights with a friendly atmosphere, a clean comedy ethos, and at great value prices! We're non-profit, so any funds left over after we've met costs get invested back into the club. We love to support and encourage local comedy wherever we can.

Acts we've put on include Milton Jones, Tim Vine (two Edinburgh previews in 2013), John Hegley, The Noise Next Door, James Acaster, Jo Enright, Paul Tonkinson, Henning Wehn, Zoe Lyons, John Archer, Slightly Fat Features, Harry Baker, Paul Kerensa, Celia Pacquola, The New Rope String Band, Joanna Neary, Andy Kind, Jay Foreman, Dyball & Kerr and many more. We also run regular Open Mic nights to encourage local talent.

From traditional stand-up to sketch comedy, music to mime, improv to magic, we've had it and thousands have come, including hundreds at the first ever Worthing Comedy Festival in 2010.

2018

Matt’s Comedy Club celebrates 10 years of family-friendly shows in 2018, and lined up for your delight, hosted by resident MC Russ Bravo, we have ...

15 FEBRUARY – New Material Open Mic – Pavilion Café 8pm

Got a new haircut?
Reinvented yourself? Applied for the patent?
Does change have you high-fiving strangers – or make you run for the hills?
Are you a creature of routine, or someone thrives on not knowing what tomorrow will bring?

These are just some of the questions we'll be flinging at the cream of the local comedy crop on our first open mic night of 2018 where we set a theme – for this one it's CHANGE – and challenge our stand ups to come up with new jokes and funny stuff to fit.

It's a bit of a gamble - they'll be trying out new stuff, you'll be letting them know if it's funny or not, but you only Pay What You Like for the night.

And a few may just polish up their best material, and if you haven't heard it, it'll be a change for you. That counts, honest.

Tickets: FREE but must be booked on 01903 206206 or worthingtheatres.co.uk – then pay what you like on the night

29 MARCH – Paul Kerensa + Jay Foreman + support – Connaught Studio 8pm

Exiled Cornishman Paul Kerensa is a writer and comedian who is a regular at the UK's biggest venues, and one of the BBC’s go-to gag men.

He has written for various sitcoms, including BBC1 hits Not Going Out and After You've Gone, the award-winning Miranda, and sketch shows such as Dead Ringers, ITV's Headcases and BBC3's The Wrong Door.

He was awarded the Titheridge Prize as BBC Radio Entertainment's in-house comedy writer, and has also written for The News Quiz, The Now Show and countless others.

Expect a multimedia show mixing gags, big screen silliness, mirth with maths and much more ...

Support comes from the surreal song bag of Jay Foreman, plus the best local acts, all hosted by resident Matt’s MC Russ Bravo.

Tickets £10 (£8 concessions)

24 MAY – Zoe Lyons + support – Connaught Studio 8pm

TV regular and Brighton resident Zoe Lyons created a huge buzz on the comedy circuit in 2004 when she won the 'Nivea Funny Women Award 2004' and reached the finals of 'Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny Award' in the same year. As a result she has become a highly sought after act on both the national and international circuit.

In recent years she's starred on Dave's One Night Stand, Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, Mock The Week, The Wright Stuff and a stack of other shows, plus BBC Radio 4 and Five Live.

Zoe takes a sideways view of life, picking out the many absurdities and turning them into hilarious routines which she delivers with tremendous energy.
